Metal Gear Solid in Official Development

AICN reports that the film version of the hit game is officially on!.

Toy Story 3 for 2009

"Toy Story 3" is coming in 2009 said Disney Pictures at an investor conference on Thursday reports Variety.

Pixar reps provided extensive details on the project which "Finding Nemo" and "Toy Story 2" co-director Lee Unkrich will helm solely this time around. Michael Arndt ("Little Miss Sunshine") is penning the script.

Lasseter also confirmed that veteran story artist Chris Williams has taken over directing duties on 2008's "American Dog" which "Lilo & Stitch" helmer Chris Sanders was previously developing.

Anna Nicole Smith Dies

Anna Nicole Smith has collapsed and died at the age of 39.

The former Playboy model - famous for marrying billionaire oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall - was rushed to the Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Florida after being discovered in her hotel room.

Despite attempts to resuscitate her, Smith died just after 2pm ET, 7pm UK time.

"I can confirm that she is deceased. It’s as shocking to me as to you guys," Smith's lawyer Ron Rale told Reuters. "I don’t know anything further. Howard [K. Stern, husband] obviously is speechless and grieving."

Her death comes just five months after her 20-year-old son Daniel died suddenly while visiting her in hospital.

Myspace eyes up Future Talent for Big Prize!

Social networking website MySpace is running a competition to win the director's job on a £1m feature film.

Site users and experts including directors Anthony Minghella and Kevin Macdonald will choose the winner from short films submitted to MySpace.

Production partners Film4 and Vertigo Films will then help develop a project.

MySpace users will be able to contribute to the script and audition for roles in the film, due to be completed by the summer of 2008.

Launching this Wednesday (7th) and is openb to all UK residents. Its just a shame you don't walk away with a million pounds!!!!

Prince Caspian Casting News

Darkhorizons reports that 26-year-old British actor Ben Barnes will be playing the title role in Disney's upcoming Narnia sequel "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian".

Barnes had been playing the sexually manipulative Dakin in the British National Theatre's production of "The History Boys" since December last year.

This week he surprised them by saying that he had been offered a three-film deal to play Caspian and was leaving right away - before his contract was due.

As a result the production has been left in the lurch with actor Jamie King, the previous theatre run's Dakin, flown in from Los Angeles to take over. National Theatre are said to be considering a lawsuit over breach of contract.

Filming is due to begin this month in New Zealand. The movie is released in cinemas next May.

Hasbro at the New York Toy Fair

Peter Webber For Barbarella

Variety has a follow-up on last week's news saying that Hannibal Rising director Peter Webber will helm the new version of Barbarella for producer Dino De Laurentiis.

"Female James Bond -- in outer space," is how De Laurentiis described the project. Barbarella will shoot at Morocco's CLA studios.

De Laurentiis is also working on The Last Legion, Virgin Territory and an as-yet-untitled underwater epic about a killer whale, written by Tom and Jez Butterworth. The producer expects to have a script for the latter to be ready by March.

Finally Apple and Apple stop arguing!

Technology giant Apple has reached a deal with the Beatles to end the dispute over the use of the Apple name.

Apple Inc will now take full control of the Apple brand and license certain trademarks back to the Beatles' record company Apple Corps for continued use.

The two companies have been wrangling over the use of the Apple name and logo for more than 25 years. The legal battle over the trademark will now end.

Apple Inc boss Steve Jobs said the court dispute had been "painful".

The Beatles' songs are still not available on any legal download service, but this truce could pave the way for their anticipated appearance on the iTunes download store.

NECA has released this image of one of their upcoming figures from their line based on Pirates of the Caribbean 3's new baddie: Captain Sao Feng...

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is the third part of the trilogy initiated by the 2003 film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and followed by the 2006 film Dead Man's Chest. At World's End is directed by Gore Verbinski, the director of the previous two films. The film's cast includes returnees Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom, Bill Nighy, Geoffrey Rush, and Jack Davenport. Adam Weisman is revealed as playing Judith Myers' boyfriend Steve in Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween, which is now filming around the Los Angeles area. He joins Tyler Mane, Malcolm McDowell, Daeg Faerch, Pat Skipper, Dee Wallace Stone, Sheri Moon Zombie, William Forsythe, Ken Foree, Danielle Harris, Adrienne Barbeau, Clint Howard, Courtney Gains, Daryl Sabara, Brad Dourif, Udo Kier and Kristina Klebel. Stan Lee makes Heroes Cameo

Stan "The Man" Lee is set to make a cameo appearance as a bus driver in the Monday, February 19 episode of NBC's hit drama "Heroes." The episode, titled "Unexpected," features a scene in which Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka) encounters the legendary Lee.

New Fantastic Four 2 Trailer on its way

Earlier today 20th Century Fox informed the IESB that the new trailer for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer will be attached to Warner Bros. 300 on March 9th.

Good news for Fan Four fans is that Fox is hoping to also release a third trailer and for it to be attached to Spider-Man 3 coming out May 4th.

Scrap Big Brother

Former pop singer Jo O'Meara has called for Celebrity Big Brother to be axed in the wake of the international race row that engulfed the Channel 4 show.

"I feel if this is what a TV show does to people, then it shouldn't be a TV show," she told Sky News.

"The whole thing has been so unfair and so cruel," she added. "I've not been portrayed as the person I really am."

O'Meara's conduct towards Indian star and eventual winner Shilpa Shetty saw her accused of racist bullying.

The former S Club 7 singer has claimed she has received death threats since leaving the Channel 4 show.

Sccorsese named best Director

Martin Scorsese won the DGA feature film award Saturday for "The Departed."

The Irish mob film overcame competition from the helmers of "Dreamgirls," "Little Miss Sunshine," "The Queen" and "Babel."

"Departed" represented Scorsese's seventh nomination for a DGA award, but he had never won previously. The guild gave him a lifetime achievement award in 2003.
