Saul Zaentz Company want Jackson's Hobbit

As Lord of the Rings fans mounted a protest following word that New Line had dropped Peter Jackson from consideration as director of The Hobbit and another Lord of the Rings prequel, producer Saul Zaentz has given assurances that Jackson will indeed direct the two films. A German website, Elbenwald.de, posted an interview with Zaentz, who acquired the rights to the works of the late Rings writer, J.R.R. Tolkien, in 1976 (the Saul Zaentz Company owns Tolkien Enterprises), in which Zaentz says, "It will definitely be shot by Peter Jackson. ... Next year The Hobbit rights will fall back to my company. I suppose that Peter will wait because he knows that he will make the best deal with us. And he is fed up with the studios: to get his profit share on the Rings trilogy he had to sue New Line. With us, in contrast, he knows that he will be paid fairly and artistically supported without reservation." MP3 Transmitter Ban Lifted

Ofcom is legalising the use of FM transmitters that allow iPods and other MP3 players to play through car radios.

The use of devices, such as Griffin's "iTrip", was banned in the UK as their transmissions can interfere with broadcasts by legal radio stations.

However, the device and other similar accessories for MP3 players have been widely available online.

Now certain FM transmitters, which can be tuned to spare frequencies, will be legal from 8 December.

Ofcom will also remove the need for a licence to use Citizens' Band radio.

Another day another eBay PS3 scam. Look, we know the supply of PlayStation 3s are limited and demand is high before the big, 4-day break. But folks please, a little caveat emptor... this is eBay for crissake. Oh sure, Schnezy's listing is dubious as hell: titled, "Sony PlayStation 3 PS3 NO RESERVE, HOT HOT HOT" and even supported by a picture of the console itself. And seeing all the features and specs spat out on the page certainly clutters the one, very important bit of text at the very bottom: "note: you are not bidding on an actual ps3, you're only bidding on an e-mail address (Hot_PS3s@hotmail.com), winning bidder will recieve password." But hey, you've gotta read the text son. Star Wars Celebration Europe Grows to ExCel London

Advance interest in Star Wars Celebration Europe has been high enough to persuade the event's organizers to move it from Earl's Court to a much larger venue, ExCeL, London.

Star Wars Celebration Europe dates remain unchanged. The festival will run from Friday, July 13 through Sunday, July 15, 2007. Celebration Europe, produced by Lucasfilm Ltd. and The Cards Inc. Group, will celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Star Wars saga with what promises to be Europe's largest Star Wars party ever.

Gaiman's first Stardust Image

Stardust is a fantasy film directed by Matthew Vaughn. The film is based on Neil Gaiman's novel of the same name first published by DC Comics and stars Charlie Cox, Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert DeNiro, Peter O'Toole and Rupert Everett. It is scheduled for a July 27, 2007 release in the USA.

Gervais films 24 cameo

Ricky Gervais has filmed a cameo appearance for season 6 of the hit American drama 24.

In the joke scene - shot for the season six DVD - Gervais plays a presidential advisor who keeps whispering that a crucial mission should be assigned to Jack Bauer. He then acts "incredulous" when a colleague says his suggestion out loud and takes credit for his idea.

24 exec producer Jon Cassar told the New York Post that Gervais was "just too recognisable" to put in the show for real, but added that another scene featuring his writing colleague Stephen Merchant will be seen in the season six premiere in January. "Stephen actually walks up to someone at CTU and hands them a piece of paper."

EA Announce Next Harry Potter Game

Electronic Arts and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced that the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix videogame is in development. The game is scheduled for a July 2007 release to coincide with the Warner Bros. Pictures film based on J.K. Rowling's fifth book of the same title.

"Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is the first in the franchise that we have developed for the next generation consoles," said Harvey Elliott, Executive Producer at EA UK. "Together with current generation versions, we are creating an immersive and, above all, faithful Harry Potter experience that will both accurately reflect the world showcased in the film and also delight fans of all ages."

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is scheduled for release for the Nintendo Wii, PlayStation3, Xbox 360, PlayStation2, PSP, Nintendo DS, Game Boy Advance and Windows PC.

R.I.P Robert Altman

Robert Altman, acclaimed director of MASH, Nashville, Gosford Park and The Player, has died at the age of 81, his production company has announced.

A Hollywood maverick renowned for his improvisational style, he passed away in a Los Angeles hospital on Monday.

A five-time best director nominee at the Academy Awards, he never won the movie industry's top honour.

But he was given an honorary Oscar this year for "a career that has repeatedly reinvented the art form".

Another Lawsuit for Borat

Apparently being portrayed as Kazakhstan's top mechanic/abortionist in a hit feature film is not worth its weight in gold.

Residents of the isolated Romanian village that stood in for Borat Sagdiyev's hometown in the opening and closing minutes of the bogus Kazakh journalist's critically acclaimed mockumentary filed a $30 million-plus federal lawsuit Monday against 20th Century Fox and others responsible for bringing Borat to the big screen, claiming they had been told that they were being filmed for a downright serious documentary about poverty in Romania.

Britain Wins Big

The British were once again big winners at the Intl. Emmy Awards, nabbing six of nine programming awards at the 34th edition held Monday in Gotham.

Brits retained their command in a year when other countries' entries, from Brazil as well as from continental Europe, showed considerable style and competitiveness.

The BBC bested another British entry from Granada and two from Brazil to take the top nod for drama with its time-traveling cop show "Life on Mars"; the Beeb also beat out strong rivals in the comedy category with its "Borat"-like spoof on British culture and political correctness, "Little Britain."

Frank Miller's new movie project The Spirit now has a poster! The artwork has been created by Frank Miller for a movie treatment dossier in order to sell the film to industry bods.

The Spirit, created by the late comic book industry legend Will Eisner, looks set to be Frank Miller's solo directorial debut.

First off, the screenshot. Here’s the deal. Brian grabbed a controller, moved the Chief up against a wall from a level in Campaign, and typed a debug command to take a shot. We ran the shot in Newsweek and then later, right here on Bungie.net. We took the shot at 2X so you could use it for wallpaper or whatever. But just to be clear, it’s a very ordinary, if atmospheric moment from the game. Well, ordinary in the graphical sense. Naturally that building is crawling with the Chief’s foes, and he’s not really going to get a chance to stand around chewing the fat.

Jackson Says No to Hobbit

Peter Jackson has turned down the chance to direct the Hobbit films due to the on-going legal action against New Line Cinema, he wrote to theonering.net with the following comments, click here for the full interview.

However, we have always said that we do not want to discuss The Hobbit with New Line until the lawsuit over New Line's accounting practices is resolved. This is simple common sense - you cannot be in a relationship with a film studio, making a complex, expensive movie and dealing with all the pressures and responsibilities that come with the job, while an unresolved lawsuit exists.

Ordesky said that New Line has a limited time option on the film rights they have obtained from Saul Zaentz (this has never been conveyed to us before), and because we won't discuss making the movies until the lawsuit is resolved, the studio is going to have to hire another director.

Given that New Line are committed to this course of action, we felt at the very least, we owed you, the fans, a straightforward account of events as they have unfolded for us.

Producer wants Sawyer for Gambit

In a recent interview for IESB.net Lauren Shuler Donner talked about up and coming projects including Wolverine, Magnito, Constantine and X-Men.

One of the highlights for all us Lost fans is that she is still very keen on having Gambit played by Josh Holloway (aka Sawyer from Lost) in one of the next X-Men Films.

Here's what she said.

ESB: Will we ever see Gambit?

LSD: Probably, you know, the reason we didn't use Gambit was because in a sense his persona is a bit like Wolverine in that he's got attitude and his power is not quite as exciting as the others. That's why we went to Nightcrawler on 2 because he looked different than everybody else and he had a great power. So yes, I think we would weave Gambit within our story, it wouldn't be “The Gambit Movie.” I mean, I love him and remember in “Lost” the guy, what's his name, there was a guy in there that was the perfect Gambit, the guy with the straight hair, good-looking, the bad boy, Sawyer, Sawyer [Josh Holloway]. (A lot of Lost forums have been buzzing about this casting rumor for some time).
